Swansea Targets Lyon's Gomis
Swansea City's chairman Huw Jenkins is keen to settle his differences with present coach Michael Laudrup. In an act of reconciliation with Laudrup, Jenkins has flown to France to convince Gomis' representatives to finalise a summer transfer to Swansea.
Gomis has been shortlisted and identified by Laudrup himself and is on top of his wishlist He is largely acclaimed as the "new Didier Drogba". The 27 year old striker has been earlier linked with 15 million pounds transfer move to Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea but is now available at about half this price since he is into his last year of the contract.
Lyon are keen to sell the striker, owing to their difficult financial conditions and Swansea seem all set to make real use of this bargaining opportunity. Jenkins would be hoping to come to an agreement with Lyon over the future of Gomis.
Huw Jenkins is willing to pull off this deal with Gomis that would demand a hefty amount of nearly 8.5million pounds, a club record. Earlier Laudrup had reportedly fallen out with Jenkins when some of his transfer targets were being ignored. It was being speculated that amidst this turmoil, the Dane's future at the club is uncertain.
This turmoil at the Swansea brought to alert clubs like Paris Saint-Germain. PSG has Laudrup and Roberto Mancini on its radar, after being denied by Fabio Capello who is now the second person after Villas-Boas to have denied PSG’s offer.
It is obvious though that Jenkins would do anything and everything in his hand to convince Laudrup to stay at Swansea.
