Arsenal eye move for Matthias Ginter

Arsenal have been linked to a host of defensive midfielders, the latest being Freiburg’s 19-year-old midfield starlet Matthias Ginter. Wenger has been seriously pursuing the likes of Marouane Fellaini but has also expressed his desire in other midfielders like Real Sociedad’s Illarramendi and Manchester City’s Gareth Barry.

Wenger has been handed over a more than respectable transfer budger to spend on players in the transfer market this summer. The Gunners have so far signed Yaya Sanogo from Auxerre and have almost completed the negotiations for Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain.

Leaving the forwards aside, the Gunners are still in need for a holding midfielder, eventhough Arsenal already have riches of talent in the midfield, with the likes of Jack Wilshere and Abou Diaby who are highly susceptible to long term injuries giving the manager sleepless nights.

Ginter would be a valuable addition to the side and Wenger has reportedly been a long term admirer of the midfielder who once started as a defender in his playing career. He perfectly fits the role of the low-profile high-talent target that has been become Wenger’s typical signing. In majority of his 21 Bundesliga appearances, he has made an incredible 2.9 interceptions per game, he might just be the holding midfielder that Wenger is so badly in need of.

Freiburg are holding of for a price of  £6 million for their talented star but the Gunners are hopeful that they can take leverage of the Coquelin loan deal to their advantage to sign Ginter.
