Chelsea to battle Arsenal for £25 million German star

London clubs Chelsea and Arsenal are set to battle with each other for the signing of German International Julian Draxler when the winter transfer window opens up in January.

The 20 year old attacking midfielder rejected a switch away from Schalke 04 during the summer as he was unsure of his ability to adapt to a new culture, which could risk him being benched for next year's World Cup in Brazil. 

According to the Daily Star, West London side Chelsea are likely to table a £25m bid for the German starlet, which is well below the player's release clause which stands at £38m.

Arsenal have also been linked with the player's signature in recent weeks, and it is believed that Draxler would prefer a move to the Gunners over the Blues, mainly due to the large German contigent at the club, which could help him ease his way into the Premier League culture.
