Are referees really giving Chelsea a hard time?

Mourinho might have a point...

After Chelsea slipped up against Burnley in the Premier League, we assessed whether or not Premier League referees really are giving Jose Mourinho's men a hard time.

Shortly following the sending off of Nemanja Matic and at least two clear cut penalty decisions going against the Blues, Mourinho told the press: "Don’t make me laugh because I’m not in the mood. A couple of weeks ago, when I was here after the Liverpool game in the Capital One Cup, I knew already what was going on with the television talking about Diego Costa’s crimes. Compare Diego’s crimes with what happened today."

He may well have a point. It is fair to say that Nemanja Matic did over react to the challenge from a Burnley player, but Chelsea did have a couple of decisions go against them that could be crucial in the final stretch of games in the Premier League title race.

Back in January Mourinho found himself with an FA misconduct charge for a comment regarding the refereeing decisions after Southampton's 1-1 draw on December 28th. Mourinho was furious at referee Anthony Taylor for not giving the Blues a penalty during Chelsea's 1-1 draw at Southampton. Then again, in the 5-3 defeat to Tottenham,  Mourinho suggested that Phil Dowd might be too fat to referee.

Are referees really giving the Blues a hard time? It is very hard to say. However, something makes us think that this title race might not just be over yet.
