West Ham plan surprise move for Smalling
West Ham United are said to be planning an audacious bid to sign Manchester United defender Chris Smalling this summer. The England international has been in good form for the Red Devils despite their average run in the Premier League this term.
According to Brentwood Gazette, the Hammers are lining up an offer of around £20m for the centre-back, who has played an influential role in the United defence in recent seasons.
Slaven Bilic's side are said to be eager to strengthen their backline despite having the likes of Angelo Ogbonna, Winston Reid, James Tomkins and veteran James Collins as options in the heart of the defence.
Smalling had been previously linked with a move to London rivals Arsenal last summer.
