Newcastle United have completed the signing of Jesus Gamez from Atlético Madrid, with the experienced defender signing a two year deal at St James' Park.

Newcastle boss Rafa Benítez is looking to strengthen his side ahead of next season's Championship campaign, as the Magpies look to bounce back from the disappointment of relegation, to earn promotion back to the Premier League as soon as possible.

And the addition of a player with Gamez's experience will stand the north east club in good stead, ahead of their first season back in the notoriously arduous Championship.

Gamez joined Atléti two years ago and has largely been used as a back up option to first choice right-back Juan Fran.

But with almost 300 first team appearances under his belt in Spain, most of which during his eright year spell with Malaga, Gamez has plenty of high level experience which will benefit Newcastle next season.

The arrival of Gamez has led to some speculation that Netherlands international full-back Daryl Janmaat could be on his way out of the club.

The 26-year-old signed for Newcastle from Feyenoord two years ago off the back of some impressive displays with Louis van Gaal's Dutch national team at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, in which the Oranje reached the semi-finals before being eliminated by Lionel Messi's Argentina.

But Gamez's ability to play on either side of the defence, could yet see Janmaat stay on Tyneside.
