PSG make £26m bid for Man Utd man
Paris Saint Germain have made a sensational £26 million bid for Manchester United's Antonio Valencia, according to reports in Spain.
Futbol Mercado claim that French champions Paris Saint Germain have made shock bid for United's 30-year-old winger-cum-defender Antonio Valencia.
PSG are on the hunt for a new right-back after letting Dutch defender Gregory van der Wiel leave to join Fenerbahçe this summer.
That has left new manager Unai Emery short of options in that department, with Serge Aurier as his first choice, followed by Brazilian defender Marquinhos, who much prefers to play in the centre of defence.
United signed Valencia from Wigan Athletic for £17 million in 2009 as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, who had joined Real Madrid for a then world record fee of £80 million.
Although he was signed as a winger, in recent seasons the 84-cap Ecuador international has been deployed primarily as a right-back.
With his pace and physical strength, Valencia has done a solid job in the position for the Red Devils, but it is highly likely that new United boss José Mourinho will prefer a specialist right-back in his team, so the Portuguese will either use Matteo Darmian in the role, or take to the transfer market to boost his options.
So it is conceivable that the Old Trafford club would be open to offers for Valencia, and a return of £26 million for a player who turns 31 next month, would have them licking their lips.
