Mourinho and Guardiola set to battle for Brazilian star

Manchester City are believed to be close to signing Gabriel Jesus from Palmeiras, but rivals Manchester United are set to enter the race to sign the talented teenager, according to reports in Brazil.

Reports in Brazil claim that City have agreed a €32 million fee with Palmeiras for the 19-year-old forward, but it is also claimed that United are set to enter the race to sign Gabriel with a €35 million offer.

The gifted attacker has been earning rave reviews for his performances in Brazil, with the European media linking the teenager with potential big money moves to the likes of Inter Milan, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.

But it now seems that the two Manchester clubs are set to battle it out for his signature.

Gabriel is a Brazil under 23 international who has scored three goals in his four appearances at that level. As a versatile forward, the youngster can play as either a right winger or a striker.

New United manager José Mourinho has already been active in the transfer market since taking the reins at Old Trafford.

His first major signing as United boss was 22-year-old defender Eric Bailly from Villarreal, then came Zlatan Ibrahimovic on a free transfers, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Borussia Dortmund.

United are also working very hard on sealing a potentially world record breaking £100 million move for Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba.
