Wayne Rooney news

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has suggested that Paul Pogba may have unfinished business at Old Trafford, as the French midfielder closes in on a return to the club he left in 2012.

Rooney was speaking to the BBC when the subject of Pogba was raised, and the United and England captain suggested that perhaps the player feels he has unfinished business at the club, having departed as a teenager.

Pogba is set to seal a world record return to Old Trafford in a deal thought  to be worth as much as £100 million -- smashing the record set by Gareth Bale's £85.6 million move from Tottenham Hotspur to Real Madrid in 2013.

Pogba joined United's academy from Le Havre as a 16-year-old and was regarded as one of the most promising player's on the club's books.

But by 2012, Pogba had grown frustrated at the lack of first-team opportunities he was being afforded by then-manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Pogba left United at the end of his contract, joining Juventus on a free transfer -- although the Italian club had to pay a compensation fee of around £800,000 in recognition of United's role in developing the player.

Pogba immediately became a key player in Turin, as he helped the Old Lady win four successive Serie A titles, as well as reaching the Champions League final in 2015.

Pogba is now set to seal a spectacular return to Old Trafford.
