Klopp is an admirer of the young defender

Liverpool are set to launch a bid to sign Hoffenheim defender Niklas Sule, having failed in their attemps to sign the young German in the summer, according to reports.

The Liverpool Echo is reporting that Liverpool are set to make a move to sign 21-year-old German defender Niklas Sule from Bundesliga side Hoffenheim, after trying unsuccessfully to capture the young centre back over the summer.

Sule has made 79 appearances in the German top flight, which is a remarkable tally for such a young defender.

His impressive and mature perfomances for Hoffenheim led to him being called up for the Germany squad which took part in the Olympic football tournament in Rio.

Sule again showed his class during the tournament, as he formed the bedrock of the Germans’ back line, and he helped his nation reach the gold medal match, before having to settle for silver after a penalty shootout to host nation Brazil.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is thought to be a big admirer of Sule, and the German coach has already shown his adeptness and raiding the Bundesliga in the transfer market.

This summer, Klopp brought defensive pair Joel Matip and Ragnar Klavan from Schalke 04 and Augsburg respectively. And although he did not sign the Brazilian, Klopp has managed to get the best out of former Hoffenheim forward Roberto Firmino.
