Mkhitaryan is congratulated on his goal last night

In a stadium filled with an electric atmosphere, from over 40,000 passionate French fans, Manchester United produced a professional performance to see them through to the next round of the Europa League, with a 4-0 aggregate win.

A hat-trick from Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the first leg saw United come in to this game with a three goal advantage, putting them in a strong position and with no Saint Etienne away goal to deal with. Jose Mourinho fielded a strong starting lineup, with the likes of Ibrahimovic, Pogba, Mata and Smalling all selected, as he looked to get the job done in France without any slip ups.

That decision proved to be a good one, as on sixteen minutes, Henrikh Mkhitaryan flicked on a Juan Mata cross to give the visitors the lead, leaving Saint Etienne needing five goals to progress to the next round.

The Red Devils finished with ten men, after Eric Bailly was shown his second yellow card just after the hour mark. Mourinho's men still had enough about them to hold on to the one goal lead on the night, making it four successive clean sheets in European matches.

Manchester United could potentially face awkward opposition in the next round, such as Lyon, Roma or even Tottenham, however they are certainly one of the favourites to go on and lift the trophy in Stockholm on 24th May. The draw for the Europa League Round of 16 will be made on Friday 24th February.
