Arsenal board want Arsene Wenger stay

Wenger may not be leaving Arsenal yet

Arsenal are prepared to offer an improved contract to manager Arsene Wenger in order to prolong his stay beyond the summer.

The French coach has been heavily criticised by the fans following their 5-1 humbling at Bayern Munich in the Champions League last 16, first-leg.

The Gunners' hierarchy have shown immense loyalty to Wenger over the years, and according to The Mirror, they have tabled a fresh two-year contract on wages of around £10m-a-year.

Wenger is currently on an £8m annual package at the Emirates, and the latest deal would see him come par with Jose Mourinho, who earns £10m-a-season at Manchester United.

While negotiations continue with the club's manager, there is still uncertainty over the futures of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, who are both said to demand wages of around £250,000-a-week to remain at the club.

The FA Cup remains the only realistic chance of a trophy for Arsenal, and the club will be hoping to lift the Cup in order to convince Wenger to stay.
