Barcelona want to sign Chelsea midfielder

Barcelona are reportedly hoping to take advantage of Nemanja Matic's contract situation to lure him to Camp Nou this summer. The Serb has been a regular for Antonio Conte's Chelsea this season.

Matic, 28, has evolved into an influential figure in the centre of the park this campaign, and his partnership alongside N'Golo Kante has earned a lot of plaudits.

The former Benfica man is currently contracted to the Blues until 2019, but his agent is holding out on a proposed extension with Barca seemingly keen on the midfielder's services.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan giants are lining up a summer approach for the Serbia international as they seek to provide more security in front of the back four.

Sergio Busquets has been the midfield anchorman for Barca over the years, but the club are still on the search for a suitable player who could lift the burden on the Spaniard.

Chelsea are yet to start off negotiations over a fresh deal with Matic, and the Spanish champions hope to lure him to La Liga on a better wage package in the summer.
