England international Tom Cleverley is just a game away from sealing a permanent move to Watford.

The 27-year-old joined the Hornets on loan from Everton last winter after he was deemed surplus to requirements under Ronald Koeman.

He has since impressed for the Hertfordshire-based club for whom he has provided two assists in his first eight outings.

According to the Watford Observer, Cleverley is on the brink of turning his loan contract into a permanent one, should he make one more appearance for Walter Mazzarri's side.

The former Manchester United graduate has evolved into a key player in his short spell at Vicarage Road, and his next game - probably against Sunderland on April 1, will earn him a long-term deal with the Hornets.

Cleverley joined the Toffees on a free transfer from United in 2015 and made 30 appearances under Roberto Martinez last season.

He followed to make just four starts in the first half of the current campaign before Koeman decided to sell him to compensate for the arrival of Morgan Schneiderlin from Old Trafford.
