Manchester United are reportedly closing in on the services of James Rodriguez after having agreed to a deal in principle with super-agent Jorge Mendes.

The Colombia international has largely been underused at the Bernabeu with Zinedine Zidane reluctant to play him regularly despite Gareth Bale's injury troubles this term.

Spanish outlet Don Balon suggests that the 25-year-old could be heading to Old Trafford this summer with his wife having begun house-hunting in the city.

Rodriguez has managed six goals and as many assists in just 18 La Liga appearances, and he is prepared to move on to a club where he will be more valued as a player.

Both Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic face uncertain futures at Old Trafford beyond the summer, and Rodriguez could be the ideal player to add more quality to the attack front next season.

The former AS Monaco ace is also on the radar of London rivals Chelsea - though he is said to favour a £50m switch to the Theatre of Dreams.
