Chelsea target Michail Antonio signs new West Ham contract

Michail Antonio signs a new four year deal with West Ham

Michail Antonio has signed a new deal at West Ham, killing off any potential advancements Chelsea have made towards the player up to this point

The 27 year old midfielder has signed a new four year deal at the club, taking his weekly salary to £70,000 per week.

According to Sky Sports, talks between player and club were at a standstill after Antonio demanded for higher wages. It seems that West Ham have now given into his wage demands after the midfielder put pen to paper a new deal that will keep him at the club till 2021.

Antonio Conte was previously interested in bringing Antonio to the Chelsea side to compete with Victor Moses for the wingback/winger role.

After signing the deal, Antonio jokingly told the club's website "It's about time, eh!". He proceeded to talk about the new deal, saying "I'm over the moon, I've loved my time here and I'm just happy that we have managed to get things sorted so I can move onto next season and do what I've done this season."

"I'd like to thank the chairman [David Sullivan] because we had a nice little deal for this to get sorted. He's a lovely man and thanks very much."

David Sullivan shared the same sentiment and spoke of Antonio, "His best years are still ahead of him and we are looking forward to seeing him spend them in a Claret and Blue shirt. We wish Michail well with the rehabilitation off his hamstring injury and look forward to seeing him come back stronger next season."

This dashes Chelsea's hopes of bringing in a wingback/winger and more importantly an English player. However, this also means that Chelsea can turn their attention fully to Juventus right-back Dani Alves.
