Liverpool and AC Milan to battle for Ricardo Rodriguez
Liverpool and AC Milan will go head to head for the signature of talented Wolfsburg left back Ricardo Rodriguez
The 24-year old Swiss international has established himself as one of the best left-backs in the Bundesliga. However, this season has been a disappointing one for Rodriguez, who has been hampered by injuries and seen his team sit at a disappointing 15th place in the league with just one game remaining.
Wolfsburg are willing to let Rodriguez go, but only at £18.5 million, a price neither Liverpool nor AC Milan are willing to meet.
Liverpool fans might be surprised at this news, given that £18.5 million for a young, established international is considered a bargain considering inflated prices of players in the modern era. The Reds have previously spent £25 million and £30 million for Georginio Wijnaldum and Sadio Mané respectively.
Jurgen Klopp is in the hunt for a left-back, having played midfielder James Milner there all season. Similarly, AC Milan are looking for someone to replace the Ignazio Abate, who has spent 8 years at the San Siro.
However, Jurgen Klopp might look elsewhere if Wolfsburg does not lower their asking price for Rodriguez, with Hull City's Andrew Robertson and Fulham youngster Ryan Sessegnon being lined up as possible alternatives.
AC Milan seems to be more active in negotiating a possible deal after Sky Sport Italia reported that the Rossoneri have already met Rodriguez's agent. While terms of the deal haven’t been discussed, Milan are poised to meet with Wolfsburg representatives in the coming days to see if they can lower the transfer fee needed to sign the left-back.
