Premier League holders Chelsea will assess the position of defender Matt Miazga once he returns from his loan stint at Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem.

The USA international joined the Blues from New York Red Bulls in January 2016 and featured in just two league games during the previous campaign.

He has therein been loaned out to feeder club Vitesse for the season with Antonio Conte opting to bring in the likes of David Luiz and Marcos Alonso to bolster his defence.

Miazga has performed fairly well in his temporary spell at Vitesse helping them to the KNVB Cup, and his future will be evaluated on his return to Stamford Bridge.

The west London giants are currently loaded with multiple options at the heart of the defence, and Miazga could be shipped out on another loan spell with Andreas Christensen having a better chance of making it to the first-team.

Christensen is due to return from his two-year loan deal from Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer, and there is a huge possibility that he could be integrated into the Blues backline.

Miazga has made a total of 29 appearances for Vitesse, who are placed fifth in the Dutch Eredivisie.
