Manchester City are on the search for fullbacks this summer, with a number on their radar, as Pep Guardiola looks to tighten up his side's defence. Monaco's Benjamin Mendy was thought to be close to joining the Manchester club, but as talks stall, they may look to the option of Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand instead.

Whilst talks are still ongoing, the transfer of Benjamin Mendy has somewhat stalled this week, with the Ligue 1 champions wanting £40 million for their defender. Talks with the player have also slowed down, with him away on international duty with France until next week.

MailSport reports today that Southampton defender Bertrand has impressed the club in recent years and is seriously being considered as an alternative, should the Mendy deal collapse.

Bertrand is a homegrown player, something that Pep Guardiola has expressed strongly in recent times that he wants to bring more of to the club.

Another England defender that Pep Guardiola wants to add to the squad at The Etihad is Tottenham Hotspur right-back, Kyle Walker. He has been a key part of Spurs' defence in recent years, but reports suggest that he is looking for a move away.
