Marseille step up chase for Spurs flop
Moussa Sissoko could be offered an escape route from Tottenham Hotspur just a year after his £30m switch from Newcastle United.
The 27-year-old had been one of the standout performers for France during the European Championships in France last summer, and this attracted plenty of Premier League interest.
Everton were initially tipped to sign Sissoko on transfer deadline day, but Spurs managed to match the Toffees' valuation while offering a higher weekly wage.
Sissoko followed to endure a tough first season with Spurs where he was restricted to just eight league starts - with Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama cementing their positions in central midfield.
According to The Mirror, Marseille are looking to lure Sissoko back to Ligue 1 with owner Frank McCourt keen to compete with the likes of Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain for the French league title.
The Ligue 1 club managed to re-sign Dimitri Payet from West Ham last winter, and they are prepared to open their chequebooks to recruit a couple of other Premier League-based players.
Spurs hierarchy are known to play hardball over their player valuations but they are likely to take a hit on Sissoko, who failed to find the net in 33 outings last season.
