United without De Gea and three other players for Burton game

Manchester United regulars David de Gea, Nemanja Matic, Eric Bailly and Antonio Valencia have been given a rest ahead of Wednesday night's League Cup clash against Burton Albion.

According to The Manchester Evening News, Mourinho has rested the above-mentioned quartet as he looks to test his bench strength against the Championship club.

The likes of Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard are likely to earn starts in the wider positions while midfielder Scott McTominay could earn just his third United appearance after he impressed in pre-season.

Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof had previously featured in the Champions League outing against Basel, and there is every likeliness that they will start the Cup game with Phil Jones still said to be carrying a minor knee problem.

Nevertheless, United should be able to secure a win with whichever team Mourinho chooses as Burton Albion have not been in the best of form in the Championship.

The Brewers are currently 19th in the second division, and they are looking forward to another relegation dogfight having just escaped relegation last term.
