Chelsea plan to trigger release clause of in-form Serie A striker
Premier League holders Chelsea could reportedly pursue a winter deal for Inter Milan captain Mauro Icardi. The Argentina international has made a strong start to the Serie A season with 11 goals in just 12 appearances.
According to El Gol Digital, Blues boss Antonio Conte is keen to add a new marksman to his ranks in the New Year and has identified the Argentine as the perfect fit for his Blues squad.
The former Sampdoria man currently has an £88m release clause in his present contract, and the Blues are prepared to trigger the valuation in order to lure him to Stamford Bridge in January.
Chelsea's backup striker Michy Batshuayi has netted seven goals this term when compared to Alvaro Morata's eight, but he has yet to convince Conte of his abilities due to his ineffectiveness from the starting lineup.
Inter Milan are already said to have made contact with Icardi's agent Wanda Nara to discuss an improved contract, and it will be interesting to see how this story shapes up prior to the turn of the year.
