Marcos Alonso reacts to damaging defeat for Chelsea
Chelsea wing-back Marcos Alonso has admitted that the Blues are very disappointed after succumbing to a 3-1 Premier League defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
Spurs had not come victorious at Stamford Bridge since 1990, but they managed to end their poor run with a well-deserved win where Christian Eriksen netted a sublime wonder-goal.
Speaking after the game, Alonso was upset with the Blues failing to make the most of the opportunity, and believes the club have to win the remaining matches of the season to have any chance of making the top four.
He told BBC Sport: "Today was a must-win and we are very disappointed. We have to fight to the end and see what happens. I don't think we played a bad game.
"We had many more chances but we didn't concentrate for the 90 minutes. In a game of this importance we can't give away three goals.Winning the last seven games has to be the target and we have to wait for others to lose."
Chelsea have now fallen eight points behind Tottenham Hotspur with seven games to play, and their chances of making the Champions League are now reliant on one of Spurs or Liverpool, suffering a huge dip in form in the final stages of the campaign.
Despite this, the Blues still have the opportunity of ending the season on a high with FA Cup success. Chelsea host Southampton in the semi-final stage of the competition, and a victory would see them face one of Spurs or Manchester United in the final at Wembley.
