Jose Mourinho delivers fresh update on Lukaku's injury
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho remains hopeful of having Romelu Lukaku back in the squad ahead of the FA Cup final against Chelsea next weekend.
The Belgium international sustained an ankle injury during the 2-1 triumph over Arsenal last month and he has since been undergoing treatment in his homeland.
In his absence, United have failed to find the scoresheet against Brighton and West Ham where they have managed just a single point and Mourinho remains optimistic of the Belgian's comeback.
Speaking after the Hammers game, Mourinho confirmed that Lukaku is still having treatment on his injury and he is hoping to have the striker on the bench at the least, if not fully fit.
"We hope he can play the final. He is in Belgium having treatment with communications between doctors and our medical department at the moment. We are waiting to see if he can play in the final - if not starting at least to be on the bench," he is quoted as saying on the club's official website.
Lukaku has been a consistent goalscorer for Premier League clubs over the years and he has not disappointed in his debut season for United with 29 goals across all competitions. He has, however, not won any piece of silverware since his time with Anderlecht nearly eight years ago.
