BBC Sport journalist confirms Unai Emery will become next Arsenal boss

BBC Sport journalist David Ornstein has claimed that Arsenal are close to announcing Unai Emery as their next head coach. The Spaniard was relieved of his duties with Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday and he has since travelled to London to hold talks with the Gunners' hierarchy.

Ornstein normally provides updates on the transfer proceedings around the north London club and he has now confirmed that Emery is the club's unanimous choice to succeed Arsene Wenger.

"Arsenal to appoint Unai Emery as new manager. Thorough process produced 46yo Spaniard as unanimous choice. Available after leaving PSG(1 Lg1 title, 4 cups), previously Sevilla (3 EL wins), not fluent English. Announcement + press conference likely later this week," he tweeted.

Manchester City assistant Mikel Arteta had been the early favourite to take over the managerial vacancy at the Emirates but the Spaniard now appears to have fallen down the pecking order.

Unlike Emery, Arteta has no managerial experience on his CV and the lack of a backroom staff is reported to have also hampered his chances of returning to the north London club as a manager.
