Arsenal enter race to sign Stephan Lichtsteiner
Arsenal have reportedly entered talks to sign experienced Swiss defender Stephan Lichsteiner. The 34-year-old right-back will be available on a free when his contract with Juventus expires next month.
According to The Guardian, manager Unai Emery has given the green light to pursue the right-sided defender and he could become the first signing in the post-Arsene Wenger era.
The Swiss international has been identified by Emery as a player who can offer more experience and leadership within the Gunners ranks, though he could only be a short-term option owing to his trailing age.
Lichtsteiner made over 250 appearances for Juventus during his seven seasons at the club but he declined the option of extending his contract for another campaign.
The right-back has since turned down a move to German outfit Borussia Dortmund but he could potentially sign for the Gunners before representing Switzerland at the summer World Cup in Russia.
