Godin to stay at Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin is unlikely to make the move to Manchester United despite being offered to the Old Trafford outfit earlier in the week.

A recent report suggested that the player's representative had made contact with United regarding a summer move after Atleti permitted the Uruguayan to head through the exit door.

However, things appear to have since paved differently and Sky Sport News reveals the Europa League holders are now prepared to reward Godin with a fresh £6.75m-a-year contract.

Godin has been a consistent performer for Atleti over the past eight seasons and during this period, he has racked exactly 300 appearances across all competitions.

United have not made a single signing since recruiting Lee Grant last month and it now seems likely that they may end up frustrated with the transfer deadline close approaching.

Tottenham Hotspur's Toby Alderweireld and Leicester City's Harry Maguire have also been linked with potential moves to Old Trafford, though United are not prepared to break the bank for either player.
