Mourinho confirms six United stars are injured for the curtain raiser

Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Manchester United will be without six first-team players through injuries ahead of the new Premier League season.

In a report covered by M.E.N, the Portuguese tactician revealed that Sergio Romero, Diogo Dalot and Nemanja Matic are sidelined for the first month of the season after undergoing their respective surgeries.

Meanwhile, Marcos Rojo has yet to report for training as he continues to recover from a knock picked up at the World Cup whilst Ander Herrera has joined Antonio Valencia (calf) in the physio room after picking up a minor hamstring injury in the pre-season friendly defeat to Bayern Munich.

United boss Mourinho had been desperate for at least one signing before the transfer deadline but things did not go as planned with the club failing to negotiate fees for any of their targets.

Toby Alderweireld and Harry Maguire were frequently linked with United during the summer but the club could not find a breakthrough for either player before the transfer deadline on Thursday.
