Lucas Hernandez on United radar

Manchester United are reportedly interested in acquiring the signature of Lucas Hernandez from Spanish heavyweights Atletico Madrid.

Hernandez enjoyed a wonderful summer with France where he was crowned as a World Cup champion and he has since penned a long-term contract with Atleti.

Despite this, France Football claims that United are keen on securing the Frenchman's signature after getting to know of his relatively affordable £72m release clause.

It is added that the Red Devils may not move for the defender in the New Year but a deal could be a possiblity when the current season comes to a close.

Hernandez was entirely used by France in the left-back role at the summer World Cup but he has shown with Atleti over the years that he can comfortably slot into the central defensive position.

United boss Jose Mourinho had been keen on recruit a new central defender during the recent transfer window but the club failed to meet his requirements after being priced out of moves for their transfer targets.

Both Harry Maguire and Toby Alderweireld were heavily linked with the club before the transfer deadline but eventually, Mourinho had to settle with the options already at hand.
