Arsenal interested in Sevilla midfielder

Arsenal are interested in signing Sevilla midfielder Ever Banega and have made him their number one priority, the Sun reports.

Banega's current deal expires in the summer of 2020, and sources in Spain claim that he has an £18m buy-out clause that could enable the Gunners land him.

Unai Emery is looking to add the Argentine to his squad to make his midfield more competitive.

A move to the Emirates will see Banega unite with Emery who coached him during his time at Sevilla.

A possible deal is set to be carried out by new Arsenal chief Raul Sanllehi after the departure of Ivan Gazidis.

Arsenal were interested in the player during the summer but he decided against a move to remain in Spain.

He was a part of Argentina's World Cup squad where he played three games before they were knocked out by France in the second round.

He made 31 La Liga appearances for Sevilla last season and has appeared in four league games this term.
