Sarri - Alvaro Morata needs goals

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has said that Alvaro Morata has been 'unlucky' and only scoring goals may help the Spaniard regain his confidence on the playing field.

The 25-year-old was dropped to the bench after starting the first four league games and this witnessed Olivier Giroud take his opportunity by contributing two assists in the 4-1 league win over Cardiff City last weekend.

Despite this, Morata was offered the chance to lead the line against PAOK in the Europa League opener on Thursday night but he was largely disappointing upfront where he could have easily scored a hat-trick on any other day.

Speaking after the game, Sarri symphatised with the former Real Madrid man and admitted that the striker may not become his old self unless he finds the scoresheet.

"Alvaro Morata has to gain confidence with one, two, three goals. I am not able to give him confidence. In this match he has had three, four opportunities. He was unlucky," he is quoted as saying by talkSPORT.

After the average performance, Morata is likely to start from the bench for the second Premier League game running with Giroud very much certain to lead the attack against West Ham United on Sunday.
