Arsenal boss 'surprised' by Petr Cech criticism
Arsenal manager Unai Emery has admitted that he is surprised by the criticism levied towards goalkeeper Petr Cech since the start of the current campaign.
The 36-year-old was expected to be replaced by summer signing Bernd Leno during the ongoing season after he was responsible for making noticeable errors leading to goals last term.
However, Emery had decided to stick with him since the start of the campaign and he has now admitted that he is little surprised with the questions raised over Cech's ability, he said: "I'm a little surprised because there have been a lot of questions over Cech.
"In pre-season and also in the first (league) matches with us, he's played with good performances. Bernd Leno will also improve with us and learn about this competition here."
Cech produced a man of the match showing against Everton where he was made busy on a number of occasions and this included a couple of one-on-ones versus Calvert-Lewin and Theo Walcott.
With this performance, Cech is certain to maintain his position between the sticks for the forthcoming Premier League games and Leno may have to depend on the Cup and European competitions for the gametime he craves for.
