Chelsea defender wants to become permanent club captain

Azpilicueta favourite to become next Chelsea captain

Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta is looking forward to be handed the captaincy on a permanent basis after the club's smooth start to the season.

Azpilicueta has been the Blues' captain in the top-flight since the start of the campaign with Gary Cahill finding himself out of the starting lineup.

Despite this, Maurizio Sarri has delayed the announcement regarding the permanent captaincy at the club but according to The Telegraph, Azpilicueta expects a resolution in the coming weeks.

At present, Azpilicueta is said to be in a straight fight with Eden Hazard for the leadership duties but he is considered the favourite having owned the captain's armband for most of the current campaign.

Should things turn differently, however, the Spaniard is prepared to accept the manager's decision and won't have any questions regarding Sarri's choice of leader.

Chelsea are presently third in the Premier League with 17 points after picking up five victories and two draws from their opening eight top-flight matches.
