Manchester United planning January attempt for Mats Hummels?
Manchester United could reportedly make an approach to sign Mats Hummels from Bayern Munich when the transfer window reopens at the turn of the year.
The Germany international was previously on the radar of United during the summer of 2014 but he opted to snub their advances in order to stay put with Borussia Dortmund.
A couple of seasons later, the World Cup winner made the switch to Bayern Munich and he has since won back-to-back Bundesliga titles to add to the two acquired at the Westfalenstadion.
According to The Sun, the central defender could make a surprise exit from Bayern in the New Year amid his failure to secure regular gametime under Niko Kovac.
Unlike his predecessors, Kovac has regularly gone with a rotational policy where Hummels has been benched for Niklas Sule and this has witnessed the former start in just three of the opening six league matches.
United boss Jose Mourinho was left hugely frustrated during the summer after failing to sign an experienced centre-back before the deadline but the hierarchy may fulfil his demands in January, should he remain at the helm.
Mourinho has come under pressure with United winning just three of their opening seven league matches and this sees them already nine points behind the lead of the table.
