Barcelona eyeing winter deal for promising Chelsea star?

Spanish giants Barcelona are reportedly plotting an approach to sign out-of-favour Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen amid the recent injury crisis in the central defensive department.

The Blaugrana recently witnessed Samuel Umtiti make his comeback from a knee injury but the return did not last long after the problem once more flared up during the 1-1 league draw against Atletico Madrid.

According to The Sun, the La Liga holders are now looking into a possible candidate to strengthen the backline in January and Christensen has been earmarked as one of the targets.

The Denmark international has started exclusively in the League Cup and Europa League games this term but Blues boss Maurizio Sarri is still said to have no ambition of parting ways with the versatile centre-back.

Barcelona currently have only Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet as the senior options in central defence, though Thomas Vermaelen is nearing his return after reaching the final stage of his recovery from a thigh problem.
