Chelsea unlikely to pursue Cesc Fabregas replacement

Chelsea decide against midfield signing

Chelsea have reportedly decided against pursuing a midfielder to replace the departed Cesc Fabregas before the transfer window slams shut tonight.

The west London side had been keen on a new midfielder during the early stages of the transfer window with Leandro Paredes from Zenit earmarked as the prime target.

However, the Argentine decided to join Paris Saint-Germain instead and Evening Standard reports that the Blues have now stalled any transfer plans until the summer.

Still, there could be potential departures before the deadline approaches with Michy Batshuayi, Danny Drinkwater and Gary Cahill among those linked with potential exits.

Chelsea have signed two players in Christian Pulisic and Gonzalo Higuain this month, although the former has been loaned back to Borussia Dortmund and will be joining his teammates in the summer.

The Capital outfit return to Premier League action this weekend with a home game against Huddersfield Town and they should expect to come up with the three points to keep up in the top-four race.
