Arsenal to stick with Martinez as second-choice keeper next term

Arsenal are reportedly not in a position to find a replacement for the retiring Petr Cech at the end of the campaign.

The 36-year-old has already announced that he would be retiring in the summer and this has spread speculation that the club may pursue another shot-stopper to compete with Bernd Leno for the number one role.

However, according to The Sun, that may not be the case and the Gunners may promote Emiliano Martinez to the deputy role instead ahead of next season.

Martinez is currently on a short-term loan with Reading in the Championship but he has recently admitted that the Gunners want him to succeed Cech in the back-up position.

The Argentine has been contracted to the Gunners since the summer of 2011 but he has barely featured for them with just 14 appearances across all competitions.

His current deal with the north London side expires in the summer of 2022.
