Arsenal close to appointing technical director?

Monchi on his way to Arsenal

Arsenal are reportedly on the cusp of signing Monchi as their first-ever technical director following his departure from AS Roma earlier in the week.

The 50-year-old left his position as the sporting director of Roma on Friday shortly after the Giallorossi announced the dismissal of Eusebio Di Francesco from the head coach role.

According to The Sun, the Gunners are now fast tracking their appointment of Monchi in their backroom staff and the Italian has already agreed on a three-year deal with the club.

Monchi, who will be tasked with the responsibility of pursuing future Gunners signings, has a close association with manager Unai Emery from their time together at Sevilla.

The 50-year-old has built his reputation of making quality signings over the years and he has performed the same at ex-club Roma with Cengiz Under, Ante Coric, Justin Kluivert and Nicolo Zaniolo joining the club under his reign.

Arsenal are likely to have a restricted budget of just £40m for the summer, but that could significantly increase with the sale of unwanted players and through possible qualification for the Champions League.
