Arsenal face Barcelona competition for Bundesliga left-back

Barcelona join Arsenal in Alaba race

Arsenal could reportedly face competition from Barcelona in the race to sign David Alaba from Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

The Austria international has racked nearly 300 appearances for Bayern since graduating through the youth ranks but he has recently been linked with a probable exit from the club.

According to France Football, the Gunners are among the clubs monitoring the Austrian's proceedings and they could make a probable summer move for their boyhood fan.

However, they are likely to face stiff competition from Spanish giants Barcelona, who are said to consider the 26-year-old as a long-term replacement for Jordi Alba in their ranks.

Bayern recently announced the capture of Lucas Hernandez from Atletico Madrid and this has generated doubts regarding Alaba's future, given he has generally featured on the left side of the defence for the club.

He has plyed his trade in the attacking and midfield positions for Austria at the international level but similar chances have been few and far between with the Bavarian giants.
