Liverpool boss confirms double injury blow ahead of Barcelona clash
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that the club will have to cope without Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino during the second leg of their Champions League semi-final tie against Barcelona.
The Reds already have a mountain to climb after the 3-0 defeat in the first leg at the Camp Nou and they have now received a big blow to their prospects of making a comeback.
Speaking ahead of the Blaugrana game, Klopp confirmed that Salah has a case of concussion from the Newcastle United clash and that makes him unavailable for the midweek tie regardless of his fitness.
"It's a concussion so it's a case of him not even being allowed to play," Klopp told the club's official website. "He feels OK but it's not good enough from a medical point view, that's all."
When asked further on Firmino, Klopp reiterated that the Brazilian is out with a muscular problem, which will sideline him for the forthcoming games against Barcelona and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Klopp is likely to depend on Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri in the absence of the pair, but it remains to be seen whether they can help the Reds make a surprise comeback against the Blaugrana.
