Liverpool's transfer stance on Philippe Coutinho revealed
Liverpool were reportedly never in the running to sign midfielder Philippe Coutinho back from Barcelona during the recently-concluded English transfer window.
The 27-year-old recently joined Bayern Munich for an £8m loan fee after the club agreed to cover his £250,000-a-week wage bill with the option to buy for £110m next summer.
According to The Athletic, the Reds were never interested in re-signing the Brazil international largely due to the costs involved for the season-long loan from the Blaugrana.
The Merseyside outfit were indeed in the hunt for a new wide attacker to strengthen the squad but it was not worthwhile to pursue Coutinho, given he would not be assured with a regular starting role under Jurgen Klopp.
Liverpool have made a positive start to the league season with back-to-back league wins but their defence has been a minor disappointment with no clean sheets this term.
They are scheduled to host Arsenal in the Premier League next weekend and a victory would help them cement their spot at the top of the standings for another gameweek at the least.
