Manchester United are reportedly planning a winter approach to sign Moussa Dembele from Lyon as they seek to strengthen the centre-forward department.

The former Celtic man has been with Les Gones for the past 15 months and he is currently regarded as one of the undisputed starters under manager Sylvinho.

According to The Mail, United are expected to pursue a new striker in the New Year after parting ways with Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez (on loan) to Inter Milan this summer.

It is added that Dembele has been closely watched by the club's scouts in the past three games and an official approach could be on the cards when the transfer window reopens.

Dembele has scored with every shot on target in Ligue 1 this season and he is currently leading the scoring charts alongside Victor Osimhen with six goals apiece.

He has previously been linked with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea in the Premier League and came close to joining the former from Fulham during the winter of 2016.

Meanwhile, United are currently with just two senior strikers in Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial but young graduate Mason Greenwood started in midweek due to injuries for the duo.
