Man City and Man Utd battle to sign Benfica star Ruben Dias
Man Utd and Man City will go head to head to secure the signing of 22-year-old defender Ruben Dias from Benfica in the January transfer window, with the Manchester both keen to add strength to their defence. The 6 foot 1 defender, who has been a first-team regular since 2017 at the Portuguese side, has also appeared 13 times for his country.
It is understood that Pep Guardiola has deployed his top scout to monitor the progress of Ruben Dias, with glowing references sent back to the Etihad Stadium. In similar fashion, Man Utd have also been tracking the youngster with an eye on the January transfer window to make their first bid for the player.
According to multiple reports, both clubs are ready to match the 65 million euro transfer fee slapped on Ruben Dias, with City desperate to replace the likes of Vincent Kompany who departed the club for Anderlecht during last summer. United also are seeking a long-term partner for Harry Maguire and believe that Ruben Dias could be the best available option.
Dias helped his club to the Primeira Liga title last season and back in July the player was linked with a move to Ligue 1 side Lyon. He currently has a contract with Benfica until 2023.
