Liverpool defender out for six weeks after fresh injury blow
Liverpool defender Joel Matip is set to be sidelined for around six weeks after suffering a fresh setback on the knee injury sustained earlier in the season.
The centre-back made his comeback from a knee problem to face Manchester United this month but that came at a cost as he picked up a recurrence of the same injury.
According to Evening Standard, the 28-year-old's recovery period has not gone as planned and he is now expected to be out of action until mid-December at the least.
Virgil van Dijk has been an undisputed choice at the heart of the club's defence and he is likely to be partnered by either Dejan Lovren or Joe Gomez in Matip's absence on the playing field.
Liverpool are scheduled to entertain Arsenal in the fourth round of the League Cup on Wednesday night and manager Jurgen Klopp is likely to offer gametime to the young and fringe players at the club.
