Frank Lampard drops big injury update after League Cup defeat

Lampard speaks on Kante

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has revealed that midfielder N'Golo Kante has recovered from his adductor problem and will return to regular training alongside his teammates.

The Frenchman picked up the injury on international duty with France and he has since been training separately from the first-team squad with Lampard cautious over any setback.

Speaking after the 2-1 League Cup defeat at the hands of Manchester United, Lampard confirmed that Kante would be returning to training before the Watford clash but refused to provide any assurances over his comeback.

Kante has already suffered a number of minor injuries when he has been rushed back to first-team action this term and Lampard may consider delaying his return to the starting fold.

Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic are the only senior central midfielders available with Kante and Ross Barkley holding fitness concerns while Ruben Loftus-Cheek remains sidelined for the long-term.

The Capital outfit have an away league game at Watford this weekend and Lampard has no choice but to field Jorginho and Kovacic in the centre of the park.
