Newcastle United make loan move for Chelsea star
Newcastle United are understood to have made an approach to sign Olivier Giroud from Chelsea on loan for the rest of the season.
The Frenchman has struggled for gametime with the Blues this term and he has been restricted to just seven appearances in all competitions where he has scored one goal.
According to The Telegraph, the Magpies made contact with the Blues regarding a loan move for Giroud last week but the west London side have presumably stalled on the offer.
It is added that the Europa League holders are keen on signing a suitable replacement in the transfer window and only then, would they consider Giroud's departure from the Bridge.
Giroud, who has only six months remaining on his Blues contract, is said to be desperate to secure regular first-team football at a new club, considering his reduced gametime could hamper his Euro 2020 prospects.
The former Arsenal man has been a constant with France over the past four to five years but his inclusion in the Euro 2020 squad remains uncertain, having barely featured for the Blues in recent months.
