Fernandes on his way to Man United?

Manchester United are understood to have made the breakthrough in their transfer pursuit of Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

The Portuguese footballer has been constantly linked with the Red Devils since the beginning of the month but no formal agreement has been reached.

However, according to A Bola, it is claimed that the Mancunian giants have successfully negotiated a fee for the transfer and the midfielder could make the switch to Old Trafford before the end of the week.

The Red Devils are likely to pay an initial fee of around £47m for the 25-year-old with a remaining £8.5m due to be paid in the form of various performance-based add-ons.

Aside from a midfielder, United are also said to be eyeing a new striker on a short-term basis after it was confirmed that Marcus Rashford will be out of action for the next two months due to a stress fracture in his back.

Krzysztof Piatek from AC Milan has been identified as the prime option for the role. The Poland international has fallen out-of-favour at the Rossoneri after the recent arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
