Bayern in the race for Leipzig's Dayot Upamecano

Bayern Munich are interested in signing RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano, reports the Sport Bild.

The German centre-back is gaining interest from some of the top clubs in Europe including the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham and La Liga giants Barcelona.

The French defender turns out to be a key cog in Leipzig's defence, helping them reach the top spot in Bundesliga table as of now.

The 21-year-old’s contract with the Eagles is due to expire at the end of the next season.

Bayern are currently in need of defensive reinforcements following the injuries to Nick Sule and Javi Martinez. Jerome Boateng has also been mediocre this season whilst being linked with a move to Emirates Stadium.

The Bavarians have signed Real Madrid right-back Alvaro Odriozola on loan for the remainder of the season.

Hans-Dieter Flick has also been brilliant since taking the reins, but he needs a rework in the backline moving forward.

The Bavarians are currently second in the league table, trailing Leipzig by four points.
