Bayern Munich are set to rival Liverpool for the signing of RB Leipzig ace Timo Werner.

The German has been subject to the transfer of top clubs like Manchester United, Chelsea and Barcelona, with Liverpool turning out to be the frontrunners.

According to The Sun, Bavarians are monitoring the situation of Werner and will compete with the Merseyside club over a summer move.

The Bundesliga giants had the chance to sign the 23-year-old last summer for a lower price of £20m but failed to make a move as they were prioritizing Manchester City winger Leroy Sane then.

It has been recently reported that Jurgen Klopp’s side are prepared to trigger Werner’s £48m release clause by the end of April.

The German ace is cited by Bayern as the long time successor to Robert Lewandowski, who is currently topping the Bundesliga scoring charts with 23 goals – Werner is trailing the Polish striker only by three goals.

Bayern are also said to have drawn out of the race of City winger Sane, who hasn’t played a single minute in the Premier League this season due to ACL injury.
