Chelsea are still interested in signing Belgian star
Chelsea will reportedly retain their interest in signing Dries Mertens from Napoli when his contract expires with the Serie A outfit.
The Belgian was offered the chance of heading to the Premier League in January and he turned down the advances with the aim of becoming Napoli's all-time goalscorer.
He is currently the joint record holder alongside Marek Hamsik with 121 goals and will have the opportunity to go ahead, suppose the current season resumes amid the coronavirus pandemic.
According to Il Mattino, the attacker is expected to leave the Naples outfit on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the ongoing campaign.
The same outlet claims that the Blues are still keen on landing his signature and will make a fresh proposal, once he ends his association with the Italian giants.
Mertens' current deal with Napoli expires at the end of June but there are suggestions that he could extend his stay for another month with the ongoing season set to be extended into the summer months due to the COVID-19 threat.
